After a frenzied week of planning, RootsCampSL kicked off Nov. 9th at 1pm SLT (Second Life Time). Over the course of the next two hours, 30 people dropped in to participate in the world's first post-election debrief carried out in a virtual world...
The main topics covered in the session were:
- Introducing the idea and history behind RootsCamp and RootsCampSL
- Establishing guidelines and plans for publicizing and running the coming week of RootsCampSL sessions
- Sharing our local experiences with the election in our communities
Highlights included:
- Agreeing on a set of guidelines for running RootsCampSL sessions
- A discussion of what sort of Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi will be
- A discussion of the role of third-party candidates in national elections, in reference to the 27,000 votes won by a Green Party candidate in Virginia that, some argue, almost cost Jim Webb the election
- A discussion of New York University Law School and local communities and New York using Second Life for offline advocacy about local land-use planning issues
The group also spent much of the session proposing and brainstorming the following upcoming RootsCampSL sessions:
