12:54 errcheck Hicks: Actually I can get about 70%

12:54 Ruby Glitter: I can't do the whole meetig in Spanish anyway

12:54 Viggo Engebretsen: no, mine is only about 50% good for speakng.

12:55 Viggo Engebretsen: but practice makes perfect.

12:55 errcheck Hicks: It would be good for me, but I'd have to keep a translator web page nearby

12:55 Ruby Glitter: Exactly, Viggo.

12:55 Ruby Glitter: So sorry about last week. i thought Drew was going to facilitate.

12:55 Ruby Glitter: he may here today, but will be late as had some other meeting at 1pm.

12:56 Viggo Engebretsen: i was drowning in finals and viruses anyway

12:56 errcheck Hicks: I have brought a local Venice Newspaper into SL, would you like a copy?

12:56 Ruby Glitter: Ah, fun.

12:56 Viggo Engebretsen: love one

12:56 Viggo Engebretsen: yes! it would be like reading about home

12:56 Ruby Glitter: Venica, CA? or Italy?

12:56 errcheck Hicks gave you Venice Beachhead December 2006.

12:56 errcheck Hicks: Venice CA

12:57 errcheck Hicks: You can rez it and read it later, I did the layout this month, and I made a copy in SL for the exercise

12:57 Ruby Glitter: Cool. This new version of SL seems much faster!

12:58 errcheck Hicks: lets hope so

12:58 Viggo Engebretsen: god, yeah

12:58 Viggo Engebretsen: the lag was killing me this last couple weeks.

12:58 Ruby Glitter: Yeah. i was trying to do a demo and it was like quicksand.

12:58 errcheck Hicks: There have been disappearing parcels, perhaps sold and wiped, that I heard about on the Live Music list, yesterday

12:58 Viggo Engebretsen: so how are each of you? i = finished with this re-do of maths

12:58 Viggo Engebretsen: really? ow.

12:59 Ruby Glitter: I have been crazy busy, and travelling a lot for work.

12:59 Ruby Glitter: hello Terrence.

13:00 Terrence Wilber: Hi viggo

13:03 Terrence Wilber: thanks

13:03 Ruby Glitter: Cool.

13:03 Terrence Wilber wave

13:03 EDDIE Colonial: tengo una duda

13:03 Ruby Glitter: I find these meetings are easier if we're seated. Do folks have a prefernce for grass or indoors?

13:04 EDDIE Colonial: sobre q va a ser la reunion ??

13:04 Fisk Blackmun: I prefer the outdoors, personally

13:04 Fisk Blackmun: but I'm fine with anything

13:04 Morris Vig: Hi all

13:05 Viggo Engebretsen pats ground next to me

13:06 Fisk Blackmun: ^^

13:06 Ruby Glitter: So we'll startw ith introductions, and I have some topics in mind, but please share your name in RL (if you want), short background, and what brought you to this meeting today.

13:07 Ruby Glitter: We can all go at once if we each keep it on one line for organization.

13:07 Ruby Glitter: Do you mind, terrence?

13:07 Ruby Glitter: You're sitting on my lap.

13:07 Terrence Wilber: sorry

13:07 Ruby Glitter: Hi nancy!

13:07 Ruby Glitter: We just starting introductions.

13:07 Nancy Mandelbrot: hey Ruby!

13:07 Viggo Engebretsen: viggo engebretsen, healthcare activist and poet, following rootswork

13:08 Fisk Blackmun: could you back up a little terrence?

13:08 Viggo Engebretsen: terrenc, now you are in my lap, sir

13:08 Ruby Glitter: Terrence maybe you can find someplace to sit where someone else isn't already sitting?

13:08 Viggo Engebretsen: thank you

13:08 Terrence Wilber: i cant control myself

13:08 Terrence Wilber: sorry

13:09 Morris Vig: I'm Morris Vig - activist from NE Indiana relocated to central Ohio - less active than in the past (telecommuting doesn't let me get out as much), I'm looking at the SL netroots as a means to keep in touch with the progressive movement while I settle in my new home.

13:09 Terrence Wilber: r u all in a group?

13:09 Ruby Glitter: OK, so... I will start. I am Ruby Sinreich, I co-organized RootsCamp in Second Life and I hope these weekly meetings will help biuld a network of progressive activists in Second Life.

13:09 Fisk Blackmun: I'm Scott. I'm a student at Digipen Institute of Technology in Redmond, Washington and I'm attending their program from BS in Real Time Interactive Simulation. Viggo brought me ^^

13:09 Ruby Glitter: Terrence this is the weekly meeting of SL Netroots. inof is here: http://rootscampsl.org

13:09 Morris Vig: Sorry to pre-empt you, Ruby.

13:09 Terrence Wilber: I am terrence a student og the open uni in UK

13:09 errcheck Hicks: I'm Eric Ahlberg, an artist, activist, and engineer in Venice, California

13:10 Ruby Glitter: Not ata ll Morris.

13:10 Terrence Wilber: we schomer have a project to find out new educational method form SL

13:11 Ruby Glitter: nancy & Viggo: introductions?

13:11 Viggo Engebretsen: oh did mine not go through?

13:11 Ruby Glitter: Oh sorry. I se eit.

13:11 Ruby Glitter: my bad.,

13:12 Viggo Engebretsen: Viggo engebretsen, northern california, healthcare activist and poet, following netroots work.

13:12 Viggo Engebretsen: there you go.

13:12 Viggo Engebretsen: chat lag is a pain.

13:12 Ruby Glitter: Thanks.

13:12 Nancy Mandelbrot: Sure thing. I'm Nancy Scola, and hmm, well -- I've worked in national politics for a number of years, most recently with Mark Warner. Now relocated to New York City, where I'm moving into writing, editing, that sort of thing.

13:12 Ruby Glitter: Terrence do you want to participate in this meeting? It is for progressive activists.

13:13 Ruby Glitter: Welcome, Old!

13:13 Morris Vig: Nancy - you found a new candidate yet?

13:13 Terrence Wilber: can i join?

13:13 Old McDunnough: hi

13:13 Ruby Glitter: Are you a progressive activist?

13:13 Morris Vig: hi old

13:13 errcheck Hicks: HI

13:13 Terrence Wilber: I am Terrence PhD student in The Open Uni in UK milton keynes

13:13 Nancy Mandelbrot: I had my heart broken, so I'm keeping a bit of a distance.

13:13 Ruby Glitter: Aw. I meant terrence. You count, nancy. :-)

13:14 Nancy Mandelbrot: I don't have a new favorite, no.

13:14 errcheck Hicks: Kucinich declared

13:14 Morris Vig: true

13:14 Old McDunnough: good

13:14 Ruby Glitter: I shoudl also mention that Nancy is responsible for MarkWarner having come into SL.

13:14 Ruby Glitter: Old, we're just doing intros.

13:14 Old McDunnough: If Barbara Lee were to do the same, that would be progress

13:14 Morris Vig: Then you rock, Nancy.

13:15 Nancy Mandelbrot: thanks. group effort, of course, led by the Gov.

13:15 Morris Vig: Nice little blog entry on Kucinich: http://www.asohiogoes.com/index.php/site/kuncinich/

13:15 Ruby Glitter: As you all know, we don't have a set agenda. I have some links to recent activism (or education) in SL. We could also discuss RootsCampDC.

13:15 Viggo Engebretsen listens carefully

13:15 Ruby Glitter: Any other topics y'all want to discuss?

13:16 Ruby Glitter: besides Kucinich, appreantly. ;-)

13:16 Nancy Mandelbrot: i had one thing, if you don't mind me bringing it up

13:16 Morris Vig: Can someone explain what the #$%$#@ happened in Lousiana?

13:16 Ruby Glitter: Shoot.

13:16 Terrence Wilber: I got a topic

13:16 errcheck Hicks: Agitation and action processes in SL - topic

13:16 Nancy Mandelbrot: i'm writing a paper for sorta a think tank (IPDI in DC) on the political applications of SL

13:17 Terrence Wilber: is that possible to display web pages in SL

13:17 Terrence Wilber: like display google on a notice board

13:17 Nancy Mandelbrot: pretty basic, but would love to hear everyone's thoughts

13:17 Ruby Glitter: Terrence, this is not a how-to session. You may find some help on Info Island, which is right next door.

13:17 errcheck Hicks: I have seen what appearred to be a web browser for sale

13:17 Ruby Glitter: Well nancy, that's the topic of the whole meeting. :-)

13:18 Nancy Mandelbrot: yeah, i guess, but this is more focused on DC folks -- candidates, national parties and orgs

13:19 Ruby Glitter: So we have recent advocacy in SL (ruby), Current politics (LA & Kucinich), Political applications (nancy), & agitation 7 action (errcheck)

13:19 Ruby Glitter: any preferences? order? skip one?

13:19 errcheck Hicks: Networking action groups - topic

13:20 Ruby Glitter: OK, we onle have an hour, errcheck. ;-)

13:20 errcheck Hicks: it be quick

13:20 Terrence Wilber: ëÂâ∆çD

13:20 Ruby Glitter: they're all good, but worthy of a whoel session!

13:20 Ruby Glitter: OK.

13:20 Ruby Glitter: Welcome, Trevor.

13:20 Trevor Steptoe: Hey

13:20 Old McDunnough: hello

13:20 Ruby Glitter: Mine might be quick, so I'll start there Hope that's OK.

13:20 Ruby Glitter: I have seen an increase frequency or awarenes sof advocacy on SL.

13:21 Ruby Glitter: Save the Children’s “Yack Shack”, Mansajeros de Paz’ homeless avatar, and Mia Farrow promoting Darfur awareness tomorrow.

13:21 Morris Vig: Agreed.

13:21 Ruby Glitter: At the yak Shack, folks can adopt a Yak. http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/scuk/jsp/resources/details.jsp?id=4753&group=resources§ion=news&subsection=details

13:22 Ruby Glitter: Save the Children is the first UK charity to fundraise in Second Life with the launch of it’s ‘Yak Shack’ on Tuesday 5th December. Having sold out of yaks in real life from its virtual gift range, Wish List, Save the Children has set up a ‘Yak Shack’ where members of Second Life’s virtual world have the chance to buy a virtual yak or donate to Save the Children. Purchasers of the yaks will be able to milk, ride and knit a wooly jumper from their virtual yak. Yaks and their owners will return to the ‘Shack’ on December 16th to show off their individually customized yaks for the chance to win an interview in Second Life magazine.

13:22 Ruby Glitter: so that's a mostly fundraising thing.

13:22 Morris Vig: I also saw that World Vision is creating a quasi-immersive experience to let potential donors see what their gifts will bring.

13:22 Ruby Glitter: Cool.

13:22 Morris Vig: World Vision Village

13:23 Ruby Glitter: oh, also there's One Climate island for cliamte change advocacy, but not much is there yet.

13:23 Ruby Glitter: This group created a homeless child wandering around SL http://www.boingboing.net/2006/12/05/homeless_kid_in_seco.html

13:23 Ruby Glitter: Alex sez, "From December 4 on, the Spain-based NGO Mensajeros de la Paz will be present in the virtual world of Second Life as a homeless teenager avatar named MensajerosDeLaPaz Jubilee. The kid hasn't any land nor properties, except for a cardboard box, some newspapers and a sign that says: 'Help a child have a second oportunity in his First Life.'"

13:24 Morris Vig: I think he was at the SL Rockefeller Center for the lighting of the NBC Christmas tree.

13:24 Ruby Glitter: And of course everyoen's probably heard about Mia farrow doing this Darfur event. http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2006/12/mia_farrow_avat.html

13:24 Ruby Glitter: OK. not exactl actovost, but interesting. :-D

13:24 Ruby Glitter: pardon the typing.

13:24 Ruby Glitter: Weclome Aldon!

13:25 Aldon Huffhines: Hi. Thanks. Sorry about being late. I had problems connecting.

13:25 Ruby Glitter: Anyone else have recent examples or reactions?

13:25 errcheck Hicks: I think there was a technical problem with Mia, grid problems

13:25 Ruby Glitter: Yes, that was last week, errcheck. it was rescedule to this week.

13:25 errcheck Hicks: Hi Aldon

13:26 Morris Vig: Maybe it's just the randomness of SL exploration, but I seem to be seeing more peace symbols on clothing, property, etc.

13:26 errcheck Hicks: There should be an activist notecard vendor with links and Landmarks to all the places, I have been making one, but can't rez here.

13:27 Ruby Glitter: Good idea.

13:27 Ruby Glitter: techSup has been making someint like thst for nonprofits in SL

13:27 Ruby Glitter: er, TechSoup

13:27 Trevor Steptoe: Most of the times in the last couple of weeks when I've tried to use SL it's been having problems which make it unusable.

13:28 Trevor Steptoe: Morris: Do you have the activist HUD (looking for name...)

13:28 Morris Vig: No - sorry

13:28 Old McDunnough: Yes, that might be a topic for a later session - what are options to SL that might be more scalable?

13:28 Ruby Glitter: Yeah.

13:28 Old McDunnough: I've been frustrated by the tech issues

13:28 Ruby Glitter: is the activist HUD somethign specific?

13:28 Ruby Glitter: is that your thing, errcheck?

13:29 errcheck Hicks: It has been a really wierd week grid-wise

13:29 Trevor Steptoe: The "NPO directory mini HUG v.1.0.2" is what I have.

13:29 Trevor Steptoe: HUD, rather.

13:29 Ruby Glitter: That's the techSoup one, Trevor.

13:29 Trevor Steptoe: An NPO HUG is something different. ;-)

13:29 Ruby Glitter: ah, true. :)

13:29 Morris Vig: but they need hugs

13:29 Ruby Glitter: we all do. Thank goodness for Viggo. ;-)

13:29 Viggo Engebretsen: hee. yes. i'm the hugger.

13:30 Ruby Glitter: Errcheck do you want to talk about your other topics, while you have the floor?

13:30 errcheck Hicks: Sure

13:30 errcheck Hicks: I took a group of young artists on a tour

13:31 errcheck Hicks: I was trying to sell Judy Baca on the idea of a mural sim

13:31 errcheck Hicks: They got spooked that Amsterdam was the most popular site

13:31 Morris Vig: lol

13:31 Aldon Huffhines: I'm sure everyone just goes to Amsterdam for the Art Museums

13:31 Ruby Glitter: Welcome Milosun.

13:32 Milosun Czervik: thanks

13:32 Ruby Glitter: We're having a Netroots/RooptsCamp meetup.

13:32 Ruby Glitter: Right, Aldon!

13:32 Milosun Czervik: excellent.... just dropping by.

13:32 Milosun Czervik: have fun

13:32 errcheck Hicks: So I just think that developing ways for noobs to get in contact with more progressive activities is needed, like the Activist notecard

13:33 Morris Vig: Agreed

13:33 Ruby Glitter: There is also an emerging island for newbies intersted in Nonprofit stuff.

13:33 Ruby Glitter: it's right next to one ofthe orientation centers or something.

13:33 Ruby Glitter: owned by Usu Ventura.

13:34 Trevor Steptoe: Did I miss an update on the new island for RootsCamp?

13:34 Ruby Glitter: No.

13:34 Old McDunnough: Yes, what about that?

13:34 errcheck Hicks: SL gets precieved by many as a game, a sex game, so leading them to...ahem, better activities(?) should be tried..

13:34 Ruby Glitter: I don't kwo what' sup with that, actually. Drew may be coming later.

13:35 Trevor Steptoe: So Usu is opening a newbie activist island? That's great!

13:35 Ruby Glitter: yeah, i'm more "nonprofit" than "activist' but there is a lot of overlap!

13:35 Old McDunnough: I brought this up in passing last week, but I have a crazy idea that might be a catalyst for new community connections, SL eduction, and exposure to activism ... A virtual marathon.

13:35 Ruby Glitter: i'm tryin to find his SLurl

13:36 Old McDunnough: I'd love to spend some time discussing it next week

13:36 Morris Vig: Can we discuss newbie marketing as a meeting topic some time?

13:36 Ruby Glitter: Good idea.

13:37 errcheck Hicks: excellent, noob marketing, I hear the live performers joking about fleecing newbies...;)

13:37 errcheck Hicks: That's just to say they are a resource

13:38 Nancy Mandelbrot: old mcdunnough, i like the marathon idea a lot. i'm trying to imagine how it might work...

13:38 Morris Vig: A treasure hunt would work

13:38 Old McDunnough: http://www.blogschmog.com/blog/?p=641

13:38 Aldon Huffhines: I could never run 26.2 miles, but I might be able to fly that far.

13:39 Ruby Glitter: :-)

13:39 Old McDunnough: The nutshell is that you give people a reason to come here and a chance to go through some basics, like purchasing runners clothes and moving.

13:39 Old McDunnough: Mostly, it is a chance to get a mass tour with people in the same boat and target some stops along the way.

13:39 errcheck Hicks: I have force powers that let me run fast

13:39 Aldon Huffhines: Actually, even just watching the Marathon could be a big draw, not to mention, handling out cups of water.

13:40 Old McDunnough: I pitched the idea to some HCI friend who were in town, and they suggested making use of the controls of this world (i.e. flying and teleporting)

13:40 Old McDunnough: Yes, lots of roles to play

13:40 Nancy Mandelbrot: make for some great visuals

13:40 errcheck Hicks: Yes, the treasure hunt would make good use of the world

13:40 Old McDunnough: And an opportunity for a machinima documentary (with lots of potential cameras)

13:41 errcheck Hicks: Oh yeah, progressive tours!!

13:41 Old McDunnough: One of the logistical issues is whether there is 26.2 miles in SL. that seems like a lot of servers

13:42 Viggo Engebretsen: you now, the breast cancer people did a marathon last year

13:42 errcheck Hicks: Newbies need help and guidance and offering tours of NP and Activist sites would be useful

13:43 Ruby Glitter: Yeah, you can just make a 26 mile track.

13:43 Trevor Steptoe: Based on the sim population limits, I think your best bet would be to focus the media attention on a web video coverage.

13:43 Trevor Steptoe: You could get DestroyTV there to cover the run.

13:43 Trevor Steptoe: Or make her a runner, somehow. ;-)

13:43 Aldon Huffhines: Instead of doing a track, I think it makes the most sense for the marathon to run through a major city...

13:43 Morris Vig: Would a short guy like me get a head start on a horse like viggo? ;-)

13:43 Viggo Engebretsen: good question!

13:43 Viggo Engebretsen: lol

13:43 Aldon Huffhines: (Like Amsterdam, perhaps?)

13:43 errcheck Hicks: lol

13:43 Old McDunnough: My wife insisted on sim-chafing

13:44 Old McDunnough: and virtual toe nails that fall off

13:44 Trevor Steptoe: I'm afraid I don't know what Amsterdam is other than a great Dutch city. Is it a XXX sim?

13:44 errcheck Hicks: yes

13:44 Morris Vig: Errr...yes.

13:44 Trevor Steptoe: Ok, then.

13:44 Ruby Glitter: Yes Trevor, and very popular.

13:44 Nancy Mandelbrot: a progressive run, with stands along the way. get folks to join up with groups

13:44 Morris Vig: And- on the exterior - quite beautfully done.

13:45 errcheck Hicks: And exceedingly lagged

13:45 Ruby Glitter: Cool idea, nancy. you can have info stations for different groups/isues.

13:45 Trevor Steptoe: I haven't explored that side of SL, sadly.

13:45 Morris Vig: go for the architecture.

13:45 Nancy Mandelbrot: a yak here, a refugee camp there

13:45 Morris Vig: Just don't go inside.

13:46 Trevor Steptoe: Wow. 86 people on Amsterdam. Yikes.

13:46 Aldon Huffhines: The Darfur Challenge... A marathon through the roughest parts of Africa

13:46 Morris Vig: There ya go

13:46 Ruby Glitter: Speaking of all these goid ideas...

13:47 Ruby Glitter: I'd liek ot post the note son our Google grou since it's semi-private.

13:47 Morris Vig: I still want to make an SL Gitmo

13:47 Ruby Glitter: er, post the noteS

13:47 errcheck Hicks: I'm with that

13:47 Trevor Steptoe: Ok by me.

13:47 Nancy Mandelbrot: sure

13:47 Ruby Glitter: Please join: http://groups.google.com/group/rootscampsl

13:47 Aldon Huffhines: Morris, SL Gitmo might end up being popular amongst a certain crowd, sort of like Amsterdam

13:47 Aldon Huffhines: I think it would be good to post more notes to the Google Group

13:48 Old McDunnough: Do we have a wiki space we can use? Should it be something other than the pbwiki one?

13:48 Morris Vig: possible, but the education/advocacy element is worth the risk.

13:48 Ruby Glitter: A guy I met at RootsCampDC had another great idea: try to break the record for number of peopel on a sim at once by havng a nude demonstration. (nude=less attachments=less memory)

13:48 Trevor Steptoe: Funny!

13:48 Ruby Glitter: Maybe for global warming, or anti-fur.

13:48 Trevor Steptoe: What's the name of the artist famous for large nude group photos?

13:49 Ruby Glitter: I've seen those.

13:49 Trevor Steptoe: I wonder if we could get him involved?

13:49 Ruby Glitter: spencer tunic?

13:49 Trevor Steptoe: That's the name.

13:49 Aldon Huffhines: One of the live music venues has something like Naked Mondays for their live music shows.

13:49 Morris Vig: lol

13:50 Ruby Glitter: Cool. Thanks for sparking that great brainstormimg session errcheck!

13:50 Viggo Engebretsen nods, smiling

13:50 errcheck Hicks: aw

13:50 Ruby Glitter: Shall we move on? Let's hear about Nancy's paper.

13:51 Ruby Glitter: Then if there's time we can hit current events...

13:51 Morris Vig: You can pass on Louisiana

13:51 Nancy Mandelbrot: that'd be great. as i mentioned, it's fairly basic stuff

13:51 Ruby Glitter: Fair 'nuf, Morris.

13:51 Nancy Mandelbrot: just setting the stage for SL, why we brought Warner in

13:52 Ruby Glitter: So how can we help you, Nancy?

13:52 Nancy Mandelbrot: but then with a focus on how folks might use SL

13:52 Ruby Glitter: (sorry to interrupt, i thoguht you were done.)

13:53 Nancy Mandelbrot: my basic premise is that there are two pretty obvious ways for candidates or orgs to use it

13:53 Nancy Mandelbrot: to support small affinity groups where the members aren't geographically proximate

13:54 Morris Vig: National campaigns/orgs should be all over this. Especially with free accounts.

13:54 Nancy Mandelbrot: and to create either educational or bonding events/places around their mission, like holding party events in SL or stuff like Camp Darfur

13:55 Nancy Mandelbrot: i may add something about yaks though :)

13:55 Nancy Mandelbrot: i agree, morris

13:55 Ruby Glitter: :-)

13:56 errcheck Hicks: Action!

13:56 Trevor Steptoe: Small group meetings are definitely the core facility of SL, but the hype (which can be a force for good, too) is pretty powerful as well.

13:56 Ruby Glitter: Those two categories seem to reflect typical understanding of camppaigns - just bringing them into online, utilizing online tools.

13:56 errcheck Hicks: I think campaign/education/recruitment offices are a really good idea, though it will be a long time before they have a huge impact on meatspace

13:56 Ruby Glitter: What about new kinds of activities and interactions that have not been possible before?

13:57 Morris Vig: Did you see that Le Pen's Front National opened a shop? Other side of the fence, given....

13:57 Ruby Glitter: Like simulating an experience (I keep coming back to the schitzophenia clinic in SL) or ibn-world organizing.

13:57 errcheck Hicks: hmmm, interesting

13:57 Nancy Mandelbrot: i hear you, but what might be good examples of those that will resonate with folks who are still a bit scared of SL?

13:57 Old McDunnough: Right. There is the whole aspect of user-created content. It doesn't have to be an organization or candidate creating the space; it can be about the residents doing the same

13:58 Ruby Glitter: what if there was a straw poll in SL, like MoveOn did on '04?

13:58 Morris Vig: Old - Like the Dean supporters all had blogs/websites?

13:58 Nancy Mandelbrot: i talk a lot about user-created content, and IP rights to it

13:58 Nancy Mandelbrot: i think it helps people get what's going on here

13:59 Old McDunnough: SL is also a training ground for activists and campaign workers. You could run simulations and scenarios to help people visualize the tasks they have.

13:59 Ruby Glitter: Ooh, good idea, Old.

13:59 Ruby Glitter: Good for trainign in gneral.

13:59 Viggo Engebretsen: very goood idea

13:59 Old McDunnough: It would also be nice to create more coalitions between local candidates in various cities with similar agendas and problems.

14:00 Aldon Huffhines: I saw a great example of that at the Games for Change conference last June in NYC

14:00 Nancy Mandelbrot: yeah, training, definitely

14:00 Morris Vig: Nancy, I'm no expert on any topic that we've discussed, but I think if you sit back and look at it from a utility point of view, your 2 key points are on track.

14:00 Trevor Steptoe sees avatars with clipboards approaching people as they fly out of Amsterdam. ;-)

14:00 Aldon Huffhines: Learning how to door knock effectiviely

14:00 Ruby Glitter: But liek trevor's example it's real-life experience too.

14:00 Trevor Steptoe: "Excuse me sir, madam, or other. Are you a registered voter in Second Life?"

14:01 Morris Vig: This group - our Rootscamp - could have met in a Yahoo! chat. What we get is more of a visual stimulation. If you don't utilize that potential, you're missing the boat.

14:01 Old McDunnough: I have a white paper due tomorrow on sports informatics and how networking might change the game of basketball, so unfortunately I have to take off.

14:02 Morris Vig: The video demo of a prior rootscamp meeting is a great example.

14:02 Trevor Steptoe: Bye, Old.

14:02 Morris Vig: c ya old

14:02 Old McDunnough: There was some mention of a new time. I'm all for that, especially since next semester I have a seminar at 4p Eastern on Wed.

14:02 errcheck Hicks: Art, propaganda/information, iconography, it's all symbolic info

14:02 Old McDunnough: I'll see you next week.

14:02 Ruby Glitter: Well they kepe doing upgardes right before our current time... and sometimes they're not done.

14:03 Morris Vig: It's the immersive experience angle that makes SL unique.

14:03 Nancy Mandelbrot: absolutely, and i spend time on the physical richness

14:03 Morris Vig: That anyone from around the world could "sit in an auditorium with Mark Warner..." - that's unique. That's different.

14:03 Morris Vig: That's vale.

14:03 Morris Vig: value, too.

14:04 Nancy Mandelbrot: i decided to bring warner in-world after watching video of the suzanne vega concert. and i don't even particularly like suzanne vega!

14:04 Ruby Glitter: ;-)

14:05 Nancy Mandelbrot: but there was something so compelling about the experience

14:05 Morris Vig: Exactly.

14:05 errcheck Hicks: LL seems to sell the money making thing, but as per the economics of reproducing objects here, it approaches zero, I think communication is the key factor

14:05 Nancy Mandelbrot: alas, money talks with some folks

14:05 Morris Vig: Immersive experience. Regardless of whether it's financial, educational, or whatever - you are in the middle of it.

14:06 Nancy Mandelbrot: or at least, it's a validator

14:06 Trevor Steptoe: Hey, Nobody.

14:06 Ruby Glitter: Hey, Nobody! Long time no see!

14:06 Fisk Blackmun: sorrya fellas, but I've gotta get out of here

14:06 Nobody Fugazi: Hey Trevor. Sorry. Update days suck. :-)

14:06 Ruby Glitter: I know.

14:06 Multi Gadget v1.49.3 by Timeless Prototype

14:06 Ruby Glitter: We're just wrapping up. nancy is talking about how candidates use SL. Well we all are.

14:06 errcheck Hicks: seems to be Wed usually

14:06 Morris Vig: Camp Darfur was the thing that put me over the top with SL. The immersive experience of Camp Darfur changed my perspecte - on SL and the issue of Darfur.

14:06 Nancy Mandelbrot: yeah, and i we can move on, but part of my conclusion is hey, we don't know how to use this yet. come in and help figure it out.

14:06 Fisk Blackmun: I've really enjoyed this though. Thanks for letting me sit in

14:07 Morris Vig: Nice to meet you Fisk

14:07 Fisk Blackmun: bye bye

14:07 Ruby Glitter: Thanks so muchf or coming.

14:07 errcheck Hicks: thanks fisk

14:07 Fisk Blackmun waves

14:07 Ruby Glitter: Let's wrap up the business and then folks can hang out and chat if they like.

14:07 Ruby Glitter: Any strong feeling about changing the meeting time or what it shoudl be?

14:08 Ruby Glitter: Maybe this time on Thursdays....?

14:08 errcheck Hicks: Not Wednesdays

14:08 Morris Vig: Sounds like Weds isn't the best b/c of the updates.

14:08 errcheck Hicks: Thu good

14:08 Nobody Fugazi: Yeah, update days. ugh. :-(

14:08 Ruby Glitter: I'll send a proposal to the group, but I wanted to get peopel's preferences here.

14:08 Aldon Huffhines: Any day is fine for me (at this point)

14:08 Viggo Engebretsen: thurdays work for me ok

14:08 Morris Vig: I'm hit n miss on every day.

14:09 Ruby Glitter: OK, that sounds like the winner....

14:09 Trevor Steptoe: Any week day after 1PM PST.

14:09 Ruby Glitter: Anyone wantto volunteer to facilitate and lead a session? We had lots of good ideas for future meetings today.

14:09 Ruby Glitter: Hi Hayduke.

14:09 Hayduke Ebisu smiles

14:09 Ruby Glitter: Y'all this is his island.

14:10 Morris Vig: If my schedule was more predictable, I'd volunteer, Ruby.

14:10 errcheck Hicks: Bless you Hayduke

14:10 Ruby Glitter: We're just wrapping up the weekly Netroots meetup.

14:10 Hayduke Ebisu: great to see everyone here!

14:10 Hayduke Ebisu: hello

14:10 Morris Vig: U rock Haydule

14:10 Ruby Glitter: I knew you wouldn't mind some visitors. ;-)

14:10 Hayduke Ebisu: of course not!

14:10 Hayduke Ebisu: don't let me interrupt

14:10 Ruby Glitter: NP.

14:10 errcheck Hicks: Maybe I could lead a tour, do you think that would be useful?

14:10 Ruby Glitter: A tour of what in particular?

14:11 errcheck Hicks: Activist sites/non-profits/

14:11 errcheck Hicks: Media sites also, just to see what sony and others are doing here

14:11 Ruby Glitter: Cool. I've found tours are hard logitically but you could do it by sending each landmark ot the group.

14:11 Ruby Glitter: but I would be very interested in that.

14:11 Trevor Steptoe: I'm interested in a discussion about ways to work around the 50 user sim limits in SL.

14:12 errcheck Hicks: If a notecard has all the landmarks and the leaders name for IMs

14:12 Trevor Steptoe: Though the tour also sounds fun.

14:12 Morris Vig: Would be interesting.

14:12 Ruby Glitter: yes, Trevor. it's definitely pertinent to doing activism.

14:12 Nancy Mandelbrot: if you could work it, a tour would be great

14:12 errcheck Hicks: I actually think it is a lerger unmet need here

14:13 Ruby Glitter: Y'all I'm going ot to have to run, but you don't have to end the meeting. ;-)

14:13 Nobody Fugazi: thanks, Ruby.

14:13 Ruby Glitter: Please join the Google group. http://groups.google.com/group/rootscampsl

14:13 errcheck Hicks: Please give me any Landmarks use ful for a tour!

14:13 Viggo Engebretsen: thank you ruby

14:14 Viggo Engebretsen: bery much

14:14 Ruby Glitter: maybe we can do the tour next week.

14:14 Viggo Engebretsen: very much, even

14:14 errcheck Hicks: thx ruby

14:14 Ruby Glitter: Later 'yall!
