Notes from RootsCampNYC Wrap Up Session

To Do

  1. post your session notes!
  2. talk about rootscamp and un-conference model, if you had a good time, tell people about it (evangelize)
  3. join the rootscamp Facebook group

Deltas

  • 30 min too short
  • too large for 30 min sessions
  • facilitation/how to moderate
  • schedule on the wiki
  • move more sessions to the AM
  • wrap up -- what people got out of it
    • Noel says: put it on the wiki
    • Homework: 3 bullets for each seesion
  • more blogger outreach (Matt tasked with this next time)
  • more generational mix -- more older people (older mindset)
  • more success stories, case studies, metrics
  • discussion: one track of predetermined sessions? maybe guide process of agenda formation more?
  • open agenda means people outside the world may think nothing is going to happen
  • lots of pre-listed sessions was a little confusing to the uninitiated b/c seemed like there was something going on in advance but it wasn't clear
  • lack of posted session notes

Plusses

  • counter: if more at a time, smaller, then 30 min would be okay
  • liked short sessions in AM, agenda on wall... created some synergy
  • we like Noel
  • people passionate about issues
  • good mix of people from computer gurus, to hacks, to activists
  • breadth of experience
  • vendors behaved themselves
  • Aussies
  • Lots of discussions
  • people stayed on topic
  • seems like most people for whom this was their first unconference stayed to the end
  • gathering/connecting people who had a shared interest to work on a session together
  • people were pretty proactive, whatever their initial concerns, to make it work and fill out the agenda when they got here
